Accessories for a Vintage Nursery

 

Vintage nurseries are all about the details. And if you want to correctly pull off the look, you don't need every piece of furniture to be an antique. Truth be told, when it comes to building a nest for your brand new baby, the last thing you want is a crib from twenty years ago that doesn't meet safety regulations. No, the place to really let the vintage-ness sing is in the accessories.  Best to keep those authentic. Try these vintage pieces such as this yellow toy wagon and baby doll from Bellalulu, colored game counters from Hello Darling Vinatage (be sure to keep these out of baby's reach until she gets a little older!), baby rattles from Tinsel and Trinkets, a toy sewing machine from Callooh Callay and an old-school baby scale from Joie De Cleve.

Best of Etsy: Mommy Necklaces

I'm posting this because I would absolutely love any one of these mommy necklaces and I am banking on my husband reading this. (Hi Babe!) The top necklaces are all from Etsy but I also found this super cool mommy necklace (pictured right) from a store in SOHO called Bittersweets. All the Etsy sellers have many variations beyond the necklaces shown above that you can customize with names, dates, initials, and birthstones.

Is it too soon for hair accessories?

Truth be told, I have always thought putting a girlie headband on a bald headed baby a bit weird. And if weird is harsh, then I'll change that to a bit Teresa from Housewives of New Jersey. But once your baby girl starts to grow hair long enough to hang dangerously close to her eyes, I think a little baby barrette is just the sweetest thing around. Mazzy's hair hasn't quite made it yet but that doesn't mean I haven't started scouring the internet for options once her hair deems it necessary. I'm particularly loving all the felt varieties. They are not quite as prissy as a ribbon and they come in all sorts of cute shapes from a butterfly to a popsicle stick to a badass pink skull. Of course, I'm pretty sure as soon as I get that thing in Mazzy's hair, she is going to tear it right out and eat it like candy.

Warm Sugar: My Favorite Handmade Dolls on Etsy

I did a lot of searching for handmade dolls before realizing that I should probably wait until Mazzy is a little older before I give her a toy with so many small details. Both for her sake and for the sake of the doll! But I still wanted to post about a line of handmade dolls that I found on Etsy because I think they are really beautiful pieces of design and workmanship.

The product line is called Warm Sugar and the dolls are all handmade by Shannon Jefferson. The price point is between $21 for the 9" Pirate Babies (and who could resist something called a Pirate Baby!) and $68 for a custom-made 17" doll with a name like Miranda or Devo.  The custom dolls come in both boy and girl varieties and have wonderful details such as a removable hat and scarf, lace-up shoes and vintage buttons. You can also choose between open or closed hand embroidered eyes along with specifying everything from skin tone to hair style.

I hope Shannon is still making her dolls in a couple years so that I can get Mazzy a close eyed Miranda doll with vintage buttons, lavender Mary Janes and brown braids with a straight side part! And I'll throw in a Pirate Baby while I'm at it.
